Whew, for a minute I thought it was MY high school, since they banned everything else (facial hair on men, earrings on men, hair dyed anything but "natural" colors). But I'm not from California.

I don't understand thongs. The point of underwear is to prevent contact between the skin and one's outer clothing (to reduce chafing and keep out clothes clean longer)--if you're going to wear a thong, why not just go commando?
