I had just come out of a 10 year roller coaster marriage (apprenticeship!) to an alcoholic who tried to kill me rather than see me leave. Believe me, I was NOT looking for either a relationship or for marriage when I met Tom. I was scared spitless of marriage and truly believed a woman (in particular) gave up way too many of her rights to even consider marriage.

Tom and I spent the first few days after we met talking and reading through my 3x5 file cards on which EVERYTHING (thoughts, quotations, notes) are written (about Life...the Universe...EVERYTHING).

Like I said, he never actually asked me to marry him. I think we were already married and had been for some time. Shows not only how much I love him, but how much I TRUST him for me to even consider doing the legal thing.
