The weather was gorgeous except for Sunday afternoon, when it got rainy. I didn't think the food was too bad, and snacks provided by FSGW were always available, as well as coffee and tea. I must confess I didn't stay up late, but went to bed by midnight every night - I wanted to be awake for the workshops. Lots of highlights - but my favorite workshop was Charlie Noble's "Songs of Ciceley Fox Smith". Fascinating commentary, great singing and Charlie really brings the songs to life. I enjoyed every minute of it. Another very special thing for me was getting to spend some time with Big Mick, who hadn't been to the Getaway for a couple of years. He's in fine form and serenaded us on Friday night around the table in the recreation center, and also ran the Celtic Music workshop along with Jed Marum. His "Back Home in Derry" finale was so rousing - it doesn't get much better! Oh and Jacqui's Mummer's Play was a treat, as always. I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked with The Mainiacs - one thing about the Getaway is that it seems like you no sooner get there than it's time to turn around and pack to go home. Maybe next year I'll be able to stay over Sunday night.
