Thread Name: Completion of song/poem re Dublin 1916
Subject: Completion of song/poem re Dublin 1916
I have been asked by a correspondent to find the rest of this poem (or song):
Down Dublin streets i walked that night And saw the buildings where they did fight The Citizen's army and the Volunteers Who fought the English and knew no fears
From Sackville Street to the GPO And on to North King Street I did go Round Reilly's Fort to the Church Street Hall Where Daly made the Khakis fall.
It is clearly about Dublin in Easter 1916. Sackville Street is now O'Connell Street, Reilly's Pub on North King Street was temporarily known as Reilly's Fort and the Commander of the Citizen Army in that area was Edward Daly, later executed for his part in the rising.
