Kat, have you tried putting different bulbs in the fan light fixture? I use the bulb-style halogen lights in some of my fixtures for brighter light and lower power use. They do make a lot of heat, so make sure it is the right kind of fixture for these. In another room have a pole lamp that has a side fixture (you've probably seen these in the hardware stores - meant to go behind a chair with the lower one for a reading light). I had a halogen bulb in there and burned myself when I bumped the metal outer shield when getting up from the chair, so that is now an old-fashioned 40 watt incandescent bulb.

Looking into the general anti-inflammatory diet in general is good for a number of reasons, the dermatitis being the most pressing. I've simplified the cleaning stuff used around the house, looking for products that don't have some of the classic irritants, and I wear gloves when I use them.
