My new CD and book, The Song and the Sigh, contains 17 songs of hope, meaning and community - songs that I consider "spiritual" - and never mentions the word God. Same with the reflections in the hardcover book that comes with it. I have long held that the question of a deity's existence is secondary to the questions of how we live as human beings.
Some of the songs, like "Daylight Song," really do fit the hymn genre.
