Misery loves company.

Computer behaves fine running the very basic emergency Ubuntu [Linux] on the dual-boot. Doesn't yet have codecs for video, etc and won't readily support Turnpike which is my non-web mail account. Does allow me into Gmail without the continual password resets needed under Windows XP.

Firefox had an update the other day.

Had a nasty the other day - followed a link on The Independent website to that map of the world's internet tribes. Since when - maybe by falling for a possibly spoofed prompt for a Real-Player update - immediately had a couple of videos running - one an ad for E45 moisturiser, another only mildly salubrious and ping and a 'thanks' from a web-page.

Since when:

Google search result links have been kidnapped and re-directed to other advertisers sites.

Barclays Bank logo and colour scheme appeared all over Guardian CiF, BBC News and others - AdBlock shows this in red for each of their pages.

I have to keep re-setting the password to get into Gmail through either Firefox or Opera on Windows XP. Works fine on Ubuntu.

The EFDSS site refused to load while waiting for Google.analytics.com

Browsing generally meant ages waiting for assorted tracking sites.

AVG 9 found five - er seven - assorted examples of Trojan
Horse Crypt.ABCQ ABFT and ABFX in various places, between the 18th and 21st of this month.

Disabling Javascript seems to help with the Google re-directions.

Apart from being annoyed at having been spoofed, puzzled at what to do next.
