The Lone Ranger was called that because he was the sole survivor of a patrol of Texas Rangers sent out to capture the Cavendish Gang. He was found by Tonto, an Apache he'd befriended as a child. Tonto nursed him back to health in an old silver mine, from which the LR got the metal for his famous silver bullets. A number of years later, Tonto found out what his name meant in English and shot his Faithful White Man Companion, sold the big white stallion to a circus, mined out the silver mine and sold it after salting it, and retired to Malibu where he spent the rest of his days harassing surfers and other non-intelligent sea life.
