Thread Name: John Jacob Niles on WFDU-FM
Subject: RE: John Jacob Niles on WFDU-FM
back in the seventies i found an album by jjn and it blew my mind. just off the turnip truck from nova scotia he had the spirit of my traditional music even if he had no stylistic similarity. and he was "merican.   so i was glad to find the reissues of his cds.

i always thought he was rooted in hois local tradition but used it creatively--which all traditional people de by the way. the "folk authenticators, can be very narrow minded.

back then nova scotia and new found land music was rejected by people i see posting on mudcat now extolling "tradition".

that being said he was a great performer . i suspect he created his dulcimer. i have never seen another like it
