For that, she deserves thanks. In fact, I might not have found MacDonagh's original if I had not taken a phrase from Bonnie's version and used it to search with Google Books.

By the way, does anyone besides me see any religious symbolism in this song? Oddly enough, it reminds me of some Sufi poetry in which drunkenness symbolizes the mystical union with God.
