David - it's difficult to guess at the time signature because of the breathing pause at the end of each line, but the tempo of the recorder is about 1 1/2 times the tempo of what follows. This stops any musical continuity. The notes on your recorder are reasonably accurate, but your vocal intonation is not there yet, so the tune sounds different.

It might be worth while studying breath control ie short breath intake followed by controlled release. Players of wind instruments usually pinch a bit from the length of an adjacent note to snatch a breath, as do singers when necessary.

I have had pupils in the past who have had difficulty with pitching, where they sing a bit harder instead of higher. Your persistence ought to pay off and I wish you well with it.

Just by the way I saw nothing about music reading in Sean's post: I do know he has an understanding of many aspects of music theory and performance that is rarely found.
