And the fact of the matter is "you are not safer" the system leaks like a faucet ... ok how is this, you pass through the scanner, go to your gate, fly to some location and wait for a connecting flight. Go get a steak dinner and steal a knife ... you are now on board the next flight with a real knife as a weapon .. does that make sense?? You are not rescanned unless you leave the secure area right ... no one is safer because of it. unless they want to shut down every restaurant inside the gates
