If " rural and small-town America still has traditional values, clean water, fresh air, good schools and reasonly well-adjusted people," why are they so often the ones who vote against environmental protection, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, public schools, etc., and in favor of unrestricted gun posession and use?

And the cities have all the votes, in situations where the popular vote counts, but the rural, low-population states have disproportionately large electoral voting power and really, really disproportionately large influence in the US Senate.   Wyoming has as much Senate power as does California.
