Ake, in Scotland aren't you?

From that distance, and judging from your comments, it's obvious that you have absolutely no understanding of American politics. Your ideas about Palin uniting the country are a perfect formula for tearing the country apart and driving it into the ditch.

Liberals should compromise on what? That very independence and freedom we value so much? I'm sure the corporatocracy would be ecstatic if we did that. Were it not for liberals and progressives, this country would be a feudal state right now. God knows the Republicans and other Right-Wingers have been working hard at obliterating any resistance from liberals and progressives. And you're talking unconditional surrender.

Unless you're operating on the premise that things won't get better until they get worse first. Well, I think that when things got tight in Germany in the 1930s, a lot of Germans may have thought that way too. And look at what resulted! Not just World War II (although I wouldn't rule something like that out), but what happened internally.

Have you ever read up on the relationship between corporate rule and fascism? In fact, Mussolini once made the statement that "Fascism should more properly be called 'corporatism.' It is rule by corporations, backed by the power of the State."

Words we should keep in mind when we hear of such things as the Supreme Court ruling that corporations can financially support whatever politicians they want without being accountable.

That turns them loose to BUY the government! That's one giant step toward Mussolini's (and Hitler's) ideal!

Not that I'm comparing Sarah Palin with the little man with the postage stamp mustache, but she'd make a perfect hand-puppet for such a person! And when you have the example of people like Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and Donald Rumsfeld who manipulated the dim-witted George W. Bush, it doesn't take a great deal of imagination to figure out what someone of that stripe could do with a person like Sarah Palin.
