He has a pretty even balance of moods in his music, he's made some songs that are incredibly depressing, but on the other hand, he's done some work that's very positive and often even pushes the envelope into "Inspirational". I think a lot of people just focus on his more depressing work because he has a voice that, for many people, automatically suggests sorrow and misery.
