Funny, when I was young, I did think some of his songs were depressing - and loved it!   But I was caught up in the narcissistic angst of youth, and was probably pretty depressed at the time myself. Those same songs evoke a different response in me now.

Sign of wonderful artistry that the poetry continues to speak to the listener over the course of a life as the understanding changes.
