I cut twice into one side of the battens, and the whole lot wrenched out! I have washed down the cast iron insert and now have to deal with the soot and crap in the beige carpet...silly girl forgot to sheet up..... (looks nice with the candles arranged on it, even though they aren't exactly right for it).

I've sprayed half a can of carpet foam onto it, and I'll give it a good vacuuming tomorrow.
