While searching for the midi file for the hymn ¡°Jesus Shed His Blood For Me¡± I came upon this post on your website. Here is some information about the author and some history to the hymn, Jesus Shed His Blood For Me, that may help your readers. The following is from an insert that was referencing this hymn, from an online Bible study. The Bible study is compiled and presented from a Korean pastor of a Presbyterian church, and translated into 7 languages, (Korean, English, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, and Taiwan).

¡°Jesus Shed His Blood for Me¡±

¡° Jesus shed his blood for me, bore for our salvation, on his cross the agony, of a lost creation. Jesus Lord, Jesus Lord, for my sins they slew thee. Now by thy dear blood restored, draw the sinner to thee.¡±

What is the very first hymn that was written by a Korean? Kim, In-shik (ÐÝìÒã×, 1885-1962)was a forerunner in Western music and was part of the editing committee for the hymnal compilation in 1931. Kim wrote the lyrics for Jesus Shed His Blood for Me. The date this hymn was made public is recorded as 1905, and this is the year the first Korean/English Presbyterian Hymnal and Service Book was published. 1905 was an important time in our country¡¯s history. It was a period of great trial and turmoil in Korea. It was a time of great sorrow over losing our nation. During this time, Kim, In-shik, who was then only 20 years old, wrote the lyrics for this song. Because of the atmosphere at that time, the influence of this hymn swept over the nation.

This is a song that contains the deep inspiration and thanksgiving regarding the Gospel. It is a bit regretful that this song has come to convey a slightly sorrowful mood because of the Korean churches. Rather, I think that this song should be sung with great strength and assurance. I pray that the inspiration and thanksgiving for salvation may abound wherever this hymn is sung.

Hope this clears up the mystery.
