The original Ye Jacobites was vehemently anti-Jacobite and though Burns may have reworked that out of it in his version it still looks to me as an 'anti-rebellion' song.

Precisely why I nominated it. There comes a point when it becomes futile to try to sustain rebellion. I think Burns recognised that and by reworking a vehemently anti-Jacobite song in the way he did, he was making a powerful statement. It is a statement about those who advocate violence when there is more to be achieved by peaceful means.
