I knew the chorus, but never recalled the verses. I think we had this by the Kingston Trio (Phil Ochs???) when I was a wee one. However, the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem do a great version called Old Maid in the Garret (so come landsman or come tinsman, come tinker or come tailor, come fiddler, come dancer, come ploughboy or come sailor, come rich man, come poor man, come fool or come witty, come any man at all that will marry me for pity!) - in which there is a line about If I can't get a man, then I'll have to get a parrot, which I always sing as I'll have to get a carrot - makes more sense to me, it isn't the one-sided conversation I miss!
