My second post was a response to one that isn't here any more!

I can't really listen to the operatic stuff as "background," but as for the rest, I find it astonishing that he could squeeze so much top-notch music out of such a brief life. There's a bit o' dross as well, of course, mostly his very early music, but it's still instructive to hear it (and most of it hardly ever gets played anyway) to see just how fast he developed, and well after the world got fed up of his "child prodigy" status. I've had the Gran Partita wind serenade in my desert island eight for donkeys' years, but I'm now thinking of what I can oust in order to put in the Sinfonia Concertante...and one or two piano concertos...damn...
