Remember how in the old novels someone is lying in bed surrounded by anxious loved ones or even just one lone haggard person at the bedside and then the fever breaks and the breathing quiets and there is a small sheen of sweat on the brow and the doctor turns and says, He has turned the corner. He will be all right.

And everyone falls to weeping tears of relief because they know that against heavy odds he has done it again.
