Subject: UPDATE 17 Jan 2011
Pat is now in a private room and will be having his first physical therapy session, today. He is at "Select Acute Care Facility" room #336, but Karen didn't have the addy handy and I am not sure I found the right one online, so I'll have to post it later.

Anyway, he is on his way back up, but it could be a long haul. Karen said this is the first time she's seen him seem so overwhelmed, getting over the shock of how long it's been and what it has entailed. He's feeling really anxious to get better but is very, very weak. They've stopped all antibiotics, but one and will wean him off the vent over about a week and a half. They really need the "output" to slow down so that he can take care of himself. He's worried that he won't be able to work up to a strong enough point before the next three weeks are over, plus the pain of it all is very wearing.

Karen is really impressed with this facility. At the hospital he'd been in, she said the docs were never around or available to speak with. At this place, everyone seems available and caring. They are having a meeting on Thursday with his case mgr., docs, Karen & Pat, obviously, plus all other people involved, to map out their strategies for getting him on his way back.

I felt a nice, deep sleep come over me this morning...the kind that comes after deep fatigue...may it bode well for our friend.

Karen asked me to tell you all THANK YOU...it means a great deal to her, esp., to know we are all out here sending them good thoughts and all. She thought maybe she could get some handicapped program to help with a laptop or something, but she hasn't much time for looking into it and was grateful and overwhelmed at even the thought of some help for a notepad(?) or laptop for him.

When I called, just now, I got to talk with Tristan! He told me he and his mom were cleaning house and that he was fine and, yes, he had been cleaning the snow, too. I love the way he says my name, "caught."He is such a sweet young man. Karen said she had to do some deep cleaning, stuff that's been piling up, including the two of them moving the piano out of the middle of the room!*bg* We didn't get around to Michael, but I would guess he was either helping or out with his gf. They've both been great for Karen and good about going to see Pat.

That's it for a few more days, unless something happens. I'm going back to rest some more
