One of the most spine tingling reditions of a folk song that I ever heard was Pete Morton performing "Tam Lin" at Wellington folk club ome years ago on a dark windy night.
I don't know if he has released a recording of it but I suspect that you will find that individual live performances may surpass what you can find recorded anyway.
