To me, pot roast refers any of several roasts cut from tougher parts of the beast, such as chuck roast, rump roast, or top or bottom round roasts, that are best prepared by braising.

Braising and the pot roast method of cooking mean the same thing - browning, then moist heat, whether in the oven, the crockpot or on top of the stove.
