TIP

We have been learning here that if we REALLY want to keep a space empty, we need to FILL IT. Not to conbtriol the psace or the person who puts stuff there, but to make visual the repurposed space.

Examples:

1. Space for guest towels we supply does NOT need to catch the 3 things I wore yesterday that I plan to wear again!!! (There is another space nearby for THAT which I do NOT need to expand or junk up!). So on those hooks go the guest towels, and a sign that offers them to guests. Over top of them, to keep dust off them, is a pretty cloth I can whip off when company comes.

2. A particular horizontal kitchen space does NOT need to catch ALL the mittens, because it needs to be kept empty for something else. So for now a perfectly-sized cardboard box sits there which can catch other BS that needs to be carried elsewhere to be put away.

3. Where stuff used to pile up at the foot of the stairs, there now sits a floral arrangement.

It's like scheduling time for yourself in your calendar if doing it spontaneously tends not to happen-- till the habit is well set, these little tips train a new habit.
