In northern England, where we're all terribly poor, co-op is pronounced 'Kworp'.

I've always regarded 'co-op and tea' as being a co-operative meal - a meal where the attendees bring a dish to share but the host provides the tea & coffee.

Like I said, we're all terribly poor up here so we can't afford to provide food for visitors - they 'ave to bring there own.

Now the Mrs JJ tells me that many Kworps would have a function room upstairs that were typically used for post-funeral bashes and the stuff they served was often referred to as 'Kworp ham'. But then she's older than me and came from an up-market area of Fallowfield.
