Kids love creative mess-- but not chaos-- and their mental state will usually show which is which to them, within their particular personality/brain chem/wiring. Even a daycare-full of kids appreciate orderliness in the toy department. The adult models putting things away till the kids are able to put one toy away before taking out another. And yes, boxing them up (or almost everyone loves baskets) and putting out one box per day is an oft-repeated strategy on all the home-organizing shows. (It works for adults, too.)
