Thread Name: Zulu King - another version
Subject: RE: Zulu King - another version
Liland, where in the DT did you find the copy with an attribution? I can only find one without. I learned this song from my mother and she was singing it prior to my birth in 1946. However the words we sing are different still and we call our version the Cannibal King. It has no kissy noises in it

THE CANNIBAL KING
Oh the cannibal king
With the big nose ring
Fell in love with a Zulu maid
And every night
In the pale moonlight
Across the canal he'd wave

His dusky miss
Gave him a kiss
All under the green bay tree
And every night they sang a duet
That sounded like this to me

Chorus:
Oh jason leeah
Ki yi ya booya
Oh pappa wawa
Kuneticaw
Oompah oompah oompah

As the years went by like one two three
Soon there was a family
And every night by the pale moonlight
It sounded like this to me
Chorus:

As the years went by like one two three
Soon there was no family
And every night by the pale moonlight
It sounded like this to me.....

The last two verses I found at a camp song site a few months back but the first two and the chorus is what my mother sang.
