The tax treaty between the US and the UK seems to say that lump-sum pension benefits are taxable only in the UK: "Article 17, 2.Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph 1 of this Article, a lump-sum payment derived from a pension scheme established in a contracting State and beneficially owned by a resident of the other contracting State shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State. It is 10 years since I retired from HR work, but I'd caution you that the fact that there are jobs that you think you are qualified for doesn't mean that you'd be selected for them, or even that the people at Wm & Mary even plan to fill them.
