SRS, I have what sounds like your stove. Electric stove from 1989 with regular coils. The largest pot I use is a 5-qt pressure cooker, sometimes with pressure, and sometimes just as an oversized pot. I also have a big stock-pot for soup/spaghetti.
I've done some canning on it. This may not be exactly to current standards, but I use an old Nesco roasting pan across 2 burners (filled with water) to boil the lids & jars beforehand, then to create the hot-water bath for the canning itself. Last time I did it, 100% sealed.
But I've also been thinking about replacing my stove-- the self-cleaning timer doesn't work. I hadn't thought about that aspect of a glass top. Let me know what you find out.
