Well, I am now a fully certified researcher at the National Archives. Got my Real Researcher Card and everything! Even a Magic Real Researcher Magic Decoder Ring. Sure is cool to be a Real Researcher. Betcha Amos would like to be a Real Researcher, but you have to meet Special Requirements to be one -- they don't let every Tom, Dick and Amos become Real Researchers. For one thing, you have to be at least 14 years old and you also have to be able to read and write. And, taking all the fun out of it, the National Archives won't let you just wander around in the stacks looking at stuff -- you have to ask exactly for what you want and that means you have to know how to find out what you want to know and THAT means you have to be a Real Researcher. They limit what you can bring in, too: no guns, no pens, any paper has to be approved by them (or you can use the stuff they supply), no knives, no explosives -- shucks, if the library in Pocatello was run that way there wouldn't be anyone using it. But they do let you bring in your own computer, flatbed scanner, and computer accessories. No candy, no liquids of any kind...if they weren't nice they'd be mean old librarians instead of modern archivists.
