Thread Name: Cross Genre Songs: Blues-Shanteys, etc.
Subject: Cross Genre Songs: Blues-Shanteys, etc.
I was thinking a little bit ago (yeah, I know) and thought that a whole new realm of folksongs becomes available simply by mixing genres. For example:

I ain't got no mama now
I ain't got no mama now
She wasn't here last night, I fell outa my hammock in the gale.

or

0, my luve is like a red, red rose,
Go down, you blood red roses, go down.

or

Oh, where have you been, Lord Randal, my son?
Oh, where have you been, my handsome young man?
Away unto the west'ard, there's a place a man can go
Where the fishes always easy and they've got no ice or snow.

or

It was down by Brannigan's corner one morning I did stray.
I met a fellow rebel and to me he did say
"It's a mighty hard road from Lynchburg to Danville
A road with a three-mile grade
It was on that grade that he lost his airbrake
You can see what a jump she made."

You get the idea. I only want 10% of the profits.
