I've been counting things all my life. It's not a problem from an OCD standpoint unless you can't stop counting when you need to. I always just figured it was how my brain occupies itself when there aren't other specific thoughts going on, although I'm almost as good at background counting while thinking of other things as I am at background music while my brain is otherwise busy.
