Right on, John! "Differently abled" is downright dorky!

One of the words the PC police howl about is "handicapped."

Well, I've walked with crutches all my life (polio when I was two years old) and for the last twenty years or so, I've been rolling around in a wheelchair.

The term handicap derives from "hand-in-cap," a way of betting on horses a few centuries ago. The expression eventually grafted itself to the amount of extra weight that a particularly fast horse was burdened with in order to make the race more even.

So I figure if I'm "handicapped," it's to slow me down a bit in order to give everyone else a decent chance.
