Sleepy today after a late night car run returning a friend home, but I did manage to dig up a lot of vinca major. If you don't know it, it is a periwinkle, a plant with blue flowers and evergreen glossy dark green leaves. It propagates by runners and is very invasive. It's good if you want ground cover somewhere big where maintenance isn't a problem.

I see it is a problem over the pond as well.

Invasive plant

Currently, we have not had rain for ages, so the clay is hard as bricks, and I had to plan ahead and water the ground thoroughly yesterday. More water today, and the plant became quite easy to fork up. I could only manage half an hour though, more boredom than physical tiredness, I think. I've an equal amount more to shift, in more difficult spots to reach. Then over to plant it in the old garden, which is big, and left to go to wild, along with an invasive geranium, very pretty, but it's taking over.

Meanwhile, I've been emptying out bird feeders which have not been visited - yesterday, niger seed which was supposed to attract goldfinches, which visited once. I poured it on one of the steps I built, where it attracted two pigeons and a woodmouse. Almost gone now. I've had to cover my lettuces with netting since the pigeons were finding them attractive.
