Thread Name: Rick's verrrry hard 60s folkies quiz.
Subject: RE: Rick's verrrry hard 60s folkies quiz.
This is going to be hard. I'll have to go back up top every time. Hey, why no cut-and-paste?

#1. Who wrote "Ramblin Rompin' Rovin' Days"? (hope I got that title right!)

I remember Patrick Sky singing "Romping, Roving Days," I think. Or was it Bruce Murdoch, and Sky's song was "Many a Mile." Come to think of it, I think that's what it was.

"I've been a rambler all my rompin', rovin' days,/ Railway boy with nothin' much to do ...."

#2. What artist wrote "On the Wilderness Road"? What artist had an album with that title?

Didn't Art Thieme have the "Wilderness Road" album? Seems to me he did. Don't know who wrote the song, though.

#3. Who had the Biggest hit of "Where Have All The Flowers Gone"?

I'd think Pete Seeger, 'cause it's his voice I hear singing it, but then I steered clear of the more pop singers/groups back then, so it coulda been PP&M.

#4. Who was THE Folk photographer?

Not Cohen, as mentioned above, unless you include trad. singers. The photog in question took shots that were on the cover of all the mags at the time, and I think it was a woman, but I can't remember the name.

#5. Each of these artists had another profession. Name it.

Ian Tyson -- Painter

Sandy Paton -- social worker (?)

Jimmie Driftwood -- don't remember, carpenter, maybe

Eric Von Schmidt -- another painter

#6. Who was Jack Elliot's singing partner in Europe?

Answered above -- Derrol Adams

#7. What artist was billed on her American debut album as "The World's Greatest Folksinger"?

Joan Baez

#8. What artist was billed on his debut American recording as "The World's greatest Folk Fiddler"?

Jean Carignon

#9. Who was succeeded by Bernie Krause in a popular band?

Answered above, I think.

#10. What male performer absolutely refused to put on a pair of pants during Woodstock?

They had a Scots piper at Woodstock? Never noticed him in the movie!

#11. Who wrote the song "500 Miles"? Who had a huge Country hit with it?

Didn't Woody get credit for that, or maybe Cisco Houston? And I think Bobby Bare (as mentioned above) had the hit.

#12. Who was Stan Rogers' lead guitarist?

Damned if I know.

#13. What Blues singer recorded a Yeats poem set to music, a Bert Brecht/Kurt Weill song, and debuted the songs of Joni Mitchell?

Dave Van Ronk, as someone mentioned.

#14. Who wrote "The Faucets are Dripping"?

Malvina Reynolds

#15. What band broke up (mostly) because they'd recorded several Dylan songs (to be hip) but the lead singer refused to sing them live because they were "anti-American"?

Dunno.

How'd I do?
