Subject: RE: 2011 Old Songs Festival NY
I tried to make a comment 2 nights ago, but messed up & deleted it & was too tired to reconstruct. I had a fabulous weekend, despite brief interruptions by rain. Between Saturday & Sunday, I got in 3 1/2 hours of shape note singing, which did my heart good. My favorite song, Bosold, was sung on Saturday. I could have died happy after just that. I caught as many sessions with Finest Kind as possible & each was wonderful! Delightful folks w/ great harmonies. Who could ask for more? In their joint sessions, I came across Larry Hanks & Kapriol'!--both great in their own way. Yes, I went to hear Arrogant Worms. I wouldn't want them as a steady diet, but they are a real kick. It was a pleasure to hear Ed Trickett in person & have a chance to chat with him. Although Harry Tuft is a Folk Legacy performer, I had never heard him before. What a sweet voice! Naturally, I went to both sessions of Folk Legacy's 50th anniversary performances. Each was great in its own way. I thought the highlight of the festival, for me, was Sunday morning--2 hours & 45 minutes of combined sacred harp & gospel singing--until I attended Finest Kinds's Sunday afternoon solo session. It was amazing!

This was my first year attending Old Songs as a retiree, rather than just starting off my summer. I spoke with & hugged numerous Mudcatters (happy hour with the Meixners--thanks, Cindy!) & once/twice-a-year friends & left the weekend with a wonderful sense of mellow. I hope I will never again feel the stress of these past couple of years. Thanks for another great Old Songs!

best,

Barbara
