Yes, it's true. Dairy products increase mucous in the throat. Fruit juice (esp, citrus, I think) takes it away.

However, you have to consider your own needs. You don't want your throat to be sludgey, but you don't want it stripped and dry, either. So experiment and see what works for you.

I once read an article in People magazine about 'the throat doctor to the country stars.' He said two things I'll always remember. One is that country stars get into trouble because they don't know how to sing properly. (memo to self - learn how to sing properly.)

The other thing he said is that alcohol, caffeine, and chocolate all dry the throat out. If you are having throat trouble, avoid them all.

When I was in chorus, our teacher didn't want us to drink carbonated beverages.
