BillD,

I used to dream about one particular house, for over 30 years, since I left high school. I never knew which house it was, because it didn't match any house I had been in, although parts of it were similar to houses I had seen. I wrote this for the 100 word challenge thread last year.

All right, here it is. A true story, and the reason why I've been absent from Mudcat for over a year - knocking our old weatherboard house down and getting a new one built.

Dream house
-----------

I've had dreams about a house for thirty years. I go through dusty rooms which aren't used very much, parallel to the main rooms. The room at the top of the stairs is stacked with furniture, with things everywhere.

I've never recognised the house.

Morning. I walk downstairs in our newly built house. I look through into the formal dining and lounge rooms, the rooms we don't use very much. They are full of dusty timber waiting to be laid on the floors downstairs. The room at the top of the stairs is piled with downstairs furniture and stuff.

Revelation!

Also, I often have the toilet dreams, pretty much exactly as you say, especially about the privacy problem. It's never because I need to wake up and go to the loo. It's more about trying to find a clean, usable, private toilet and getting frustrated in the search.

Ebbie,

Sometimes when I can't work out what the dream is trying to tell me, I sit somewhere quiet and try to re-live the dream, and let it resolve into an outcome. Often I will see why I was dreaming that story and get the connections with what is happening in my life.
