I'm not sure if common sense ever existed Bert but one that seems related to your original comments was a conversation I had with someone in a pub who worked for a company of Consulting Engineers. He commented that it worried him that the newer generation of graduates coming into his business were just taking figures from calculators and computers with no consideration as to whether these figures were yeilding results somewhere in the right ball park or not - computer/calculator says this so it must be right - no question of possible wrong input, worng programming, assumtions, etc.
