Well I went opening weekend the last two years and basically it seemed to work if you went from pub to pub and stuck the nose in and joined in if it seemed a good plan. If it didn't then you could "refresh, pay up and journey on" - there were MANY pubs to go to, a number with spontaneous sessions and/or sings.

I heard rumours of playing on parts of the campsite too but did not go there.

I did see the noisier combines just starting where they felt like on the promenade if they could find space between tut stalls and amplified pan pipes - again worked well sometimes.

Keep an eye out for the mummers too.
