I'm told that "daddy Koch" (Fred) was a relatively poor and struggling petroleum engineer when he learned that his buddy Joe wanted some oil refineries. Fred put together a package of 19(?) refineries for delivery to Joe, and that was the beginning of Koch Industries.

Anybody want to guess who "Joe" was?
