Only just found this thread. As someone mentions I tried to keep as close to the original as possible whilst making it work in English. We had to get permission from The Brel Foundation to release it as mine was and possibly still is the only English translation of the original 1959 Brel version. The guitar part was based on the 1965 version released as a B side by the Coachmen on EMI
