Are you a French speaker Rich? If not I would guess that what you 'remember' was actually sung in Cajun french and you have transposed the nearest English words to the sounds you heard.
I have certainly not heard the lyrics you posted, but I am English and have only 'passed a good time' in La on very few occasions.
