Picking up on Pauls comment above, I much preferred the Ballad sessions a couple of years ago, where I got to hear a range of singers, not just festival artists,( especially as some of these start by saying they don't really sing ballads) If this is going to be a concert where we just listen, why is it listed as a session? As is often the case when one of the festival artists takes responsibility for running the 2 hours and gives someone from the floor a chance to sing, they tend to pick singers they know, or those suggested to them, leaving little chance for most of us. These are not songs that are welcome in most sing arounds - I think Whitby should look at what is being done at other festivals, for example Warwick, and give those who have paid and come to share what they enjoy with others a chance to sing. One day this year there were only 4 songs not from festival artists, this has just become another concert, some interesting conversations this year about looking at other festivals next year.
