The reason our are having a hrd time figuring out the chords to this song is because it's a song which just doesn't lend itself to that. It moves stepwise up or down the scale a lot, and chords consist (roughly) of every other note.

It's a beautiful and sophisticated tune, and it was probably meant to be accompanied by a trainsed player who was following music written for it. Either that, or unaccompanied.

My advice is to forget this song for a few years and play other songs which work better with chords.
