I was leaving dear old Ireland
In the merry month of June
The birds were sweetly singing
And all nature was in tune
When an Irish girl accosted me
With a salt tear in her eye
And as she said these words to me
She bitterly did cry
Kind sir I ask a favour
Will you grant it to me please
It is not much I ask of thee
But it would set my heart at ease
