While I am NOT at all sure of the validity of this article, it doesn't surprise me I'm old enough (174 I think)that I well remember back in the late 80's, there were three small towns in California that decided to try a three month experiment of banning the use of cash. At that time it was driven (I think) by the banking industy to get (force) people to use their banking cards.

I well remember that the experiement was cancelled after only two wks because the merchants were screaming that their money was drying up.
