DC: "Sharon Peters" sounds like "sharing pricks" (or willies, depending on where you're from)

Thanks for the interpretation, Jim. Even after the explanation, it takes some effort to make "Sharon" sound like "sharing" and Peter isn't a word I normally associate with the male organ. No wonder I'm confused.

Getting back to the subject, I don't like the name Douglas and, except for the most official documents, always enter my name as Doug. Even though I always sign up for our local open mic as Doug, I generally get referred to there as Dougie. That's also how my sister refers to me. Like it or not, I know people are only being friendly, so I live with it.

I know an Elizabeth, referred to as Liz by choice, who receives as many letters addressed to Mrs L ….. as she does to Mrs E ……

Her daughter is also Elizabeth. For a short time she was nicknamed "Lilibet". The Lily part somehow stuck and she now introduces herself as Lil.
